So What is Beach Boogie?

Beach Boogie is first and foremost a holiday. It is aimed at anyone who fancies something a little different from straight jive, anyone who loves having fun, and anyone who wants to relax or party in a beautiful location. We provide dance classes during the day, dances with added entertainment each evening, and many other surprises besides.

The venue is an independent holiday centre situated on clifftops above the beach, a short walk away from Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The centre is under new management this year, and they are keen to assist us in every way with friendly and helpful staff. Accommodation is mainly in basic self catering chalets, though there are some facilities for a small number of campers. On site there is a basic shop, an all day café/restaurant, a licensed bar, and of course a large hall used for evening dances and some classes. Other classes take place outside on the ‘Lindy Lawn’ or on ‘Boogie Beach’.

We keep numbers for this holiday down to around 140 people. This makes for a fairly intimate group, it ensures class sizes are manageable, and it is a very good number for the evening venues we use. Judging from last year, you’ll meet a diverse gathering, from the veterans of the dance scene to the newcomers, from the fairly sane to the total nut cases. Families are welcome, though places for people not participating in the dancing are limited.

There will be a wide mix of classes with plenty of jive, swing, latin and aerials. In addition to these, there are tasters in a number of other styles, with the favourites being taken that little bit further.

The evenings are packed full of entertainment organised by the Jump ’n’ Jive team, and scintillating music played by the master DJs of ‘Jive Party’. This usually takes place on site for the ultimate in convenience, though we do venture further afield once or twice to provide variety.

The timetabling makes sure that you have plenty of time in between the classes and events to go and do all the touristy things that are just crying out to be sampled. After all, the Isle of Wight is extremely beautiful and jam-packed with attractions and activities.

You have the choice of joining us for the Full Monty — eight days of fun and frolics with some of the liveliest people you could wish to meet or avoid. Or if that all sounds a bit much then a good option is to come for half a week, referred to as Splurge 1 or Splurge 2. (Those doing the Full Monty will be able to avoid repetition of classes).
