In general during each lesson time, there will be two or three different lessons going on, and you will be free to choose which one you want to do. The various lessons that will be on offer are given below (the exact lessons that are available will also depend on which dates you book.)
Aerials: These are acrobatic moves that you’ve always wanted to try (or perfect) ideal for practising on the beach. Energy and enthusiasm are far more important than airsteps experience or dancing ability.
Advanced Jive: For those of you who feel you’ve reached a plateau and need something a little different. Be prepared for a challenge!
Mini Airsteps: Lifts and jumps, more acceptable for social dancing, some with a humorous twist. Fun for all shapes and sizes, and abilities.
Jazz Strolls: Solo routines performed to specific foot-tapping, finger-clicking pieces of music. Suitable for everyone and the perfect way to get used to footwork.
Partnered Charleston: The lively, cheeky dance made famous in the 20s. You will need a huge capacity for fun, fairly wide dancing experience and loads of energy.
Blues: Smooth, sultry dancing for winding down and getting ‘hot’! Suitable for ‘adults’.
West Coast Swing: The new craze from America. It’s smooth but not slow! Suitable for intermediate and above level.
Lindy Hop: The grandfather of all jive dances — fast and showy, the performance dance of swing. Classes will be aimed at all levels of dancers.
Boogie Woogie: One of the swing styles, danced with partners to fast rhythmic music, and requiring fast feet.
Tap: We all know what this is, but for Beach Boogie it will be specially geared for the jiver. Suitable for everyone, even Mr Blobby?
Latin Ballroom: Cha cha and Rumba, two of the most passionate, hip-swivelling and flirtatious of the ballroom dances. Suitable for all.
Tango: Tango has a sizzling reputation as a very controlled yet passionate dance. Class level will be suitable for all.
Hip Hop: Modern funky dance style incorporating movement of all parts of the body. A dance in itself, or a style that can be applied to jive. All jivers should take to this.
Balboa: Close partner dance from the 20s, based on the Charleston. Looks very gentle, even when danced to the fastest music. Suitable for intermediate and above level.
Shag: (yes it’s a dance) Similar to balboa but more flamboyant — legs flying everywhere.
